Tetrachromatism – A New Epoch in Art History

A New Epoch in Art History

When the history of our modern world and its achievements are written, a world filled and dominated by ruling computers and the internet coupled with fast-paced machine driven lifestyles, it will stand to reason that a tandem epoch in art history will have been born. The 21st century has spurred major technological advancements which revealed groundbreaking new discoveries in the sciences; and in visual science one such evolution will be Tetrachromacy.

Herein lies a genre heralded in and of the times. Fast-paced, unique color, multi-faceted juxtaposed value created through super human vision able to resolve far more colors in nature than the normal eye. Tetrachromatism technically labels work which produces color and value rapidly and a cut above. Replicating earth’s visual reality (which regular human vision cannot see) to produce images on canvas with an execution bordering on the mechanical.

Those artists possessing the ability to express the genotype to its fullest potential, possible through masterful practice, will have evolved to a higher level of artistic functionality, much in line with the speed of machine led mass production.

Just as the human race can now (via science and computerization) know and understand more about our planet earth, and communicate it with lightening speed, so too can the new science of Tetrachromacy, a genetic ability and training which provides the fine artist the ability to see and produce art like no other. Additionally, this new super vision artist can paint and express it at a pace that will match other non-human developments and accomplishments.

As color perception affects and defines one of the three main components of painting, (color, form and value) it stands to reason that Tetrachromatic color perception cannot help but lead the charge of bringing this artistic genre to a higher and more aesthetic new platform.
Tetrachromatism produces a new era and body of work that will stand alone given its unique style, functionality and unique ability to portray the world as it was intended it to be seen–in its color-filled truth. The ability to move from regular vision’s possible one million color spectrum to super vision’s ultimate possibility of 100 million color space and the ease of identification and production of the same is what makes the movement.

Now, for the first time, with swift color mixing and deft application, (combined and immediate single raw execution) the accurate colors and thereby genuine beauty of nature can be spontaneously captured on canvas. Thus is the Artwork which is authentically created by the Tetrachromat Artist and witnessed by all. The act of the gifted fourth receptor, subsequent messaging to the brain and production from palette to brush will show the viewer unequivocally that a Tetrachromat Artist’s eye truly sees and brilliantly produces color and value like no other.

Method of the Tetrachromat Artist should also be considered here as there are many parallels which can be found in other art genres, but more specifically in the oil painters of Impressionism. It is the age-old, slow drying, rich and malleable medium of oil paint which has become the perfect partner to this new ability. Oil paint provides a myriad of subtle colors (grays) along with a briskness and brevity of stroke (the alla prima or direct method), and the ability to merge color and value for immediate subtle effect and definition of the subject. Not surprisingly, Tetrachromatism finds its roots, its history, in the brief visual descriptions, play of light on color and value, en plein air (outdoor) production and so many other attributes (such as earthly subject matter and suggestion) which define this period in art.

Concetta Antico is the first known human who is a fine artist to possess both the genotype and the masterful ability of a true Tetrachromat Artist. As the bona fide leader of the new art movement, Concetta intends to further define the group and assist a growing number of artists to be identified also. Collectively their work will unravel the mystery of this new science. Concetta’s efforts will fill the ranks of the new school to be hallmarked as Tetrachromatism.
