Hello Lovelies!
I recently returned from a trip visiting our farm in Byron Bay, Australia and it was a wonderful release. Truly there is something so divine about taking life a little slower and spending time working in the garden. Putting on my sun hat and planting and nurturing my young fruits and vegetables gave me a sense of joy that I had been missing amongst the hustle and bustle of every-day life, and I couldn’t help but muse over the fact that when you can combine beauty and productivity (and of course COLOR!) there is no greater reward.
Growing an assortment of colors in your garden will make meals with your family more exciting, save you money on groceries, not to mention that it will strengthen your health and give you a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Start embracing your own farm-inspired life today by planting the following colors in your own back yard:
Red
Of course the first vegetable that comes to mind are tomatoes – tiny sweet cherry or big bold beefsteak will immediately stand out amongst the greenery. Red bell peppers will also do the trick, though they are a bit more challenging to grow as they need very warm temperatures to germinate. Whatever you choose, red is a must for any gorgeous garden.
Orange
What child can resist watching a pumpkin grow around Halloween as it starts from a tiny sprout and then can suddenly produce an impressive shape and size almost too difficult for little hands to carry? Butternut squashes are also a favorite and will last long into the autumn months. You can also add some orange bell peppers or orange tomatoes if you like.
Yellow
Why not add a little cheer to your vegetable patch? Summer squash’s golden hue will make you feel like royalty as will zucchini and other types of peppers. Having a shot of yellow in your personal produce is an absolute must!
Blue and Purple
A little trickier to find in nature, these hues when grown will add some deliciously rich jewel tones to your garden. Hearty egg plants, purple kale, beets, red onions, purple basil and purple bell peppers all can can be found in you local gardening center.
What are YOUR favorite vegetables to plan this time of year? Send a note to Concetta@concettaantico.com. I’d love to hear!
Here’s to living a healthier, happier, more colorful farm-inspired life!
